In order to survive, many people need a job. As you might know, since 2020, the Coronavirus disease has brought the world, including Japan, a very serious impact and Japan was facing a double-dip recession. Where a lot of different scales of businesses were closed down, a continuous rise in unemployment rate, fakers have taken advantage of this confused situation to scam job applicants’ personal data.
Who might be the faker on the internet?
When you do job hunting through some job websites, have you ever thought that there might be many fake job agents out there waiting to scam your personal data? It is because foreigners are new here and most of us are supposed to know nothing about Japan’s job market, and that’s why we easily become a deceit object for them.
This may not be easy for us, a fresh job seeker, to differentiate who is the fake job agent out there; we always have a higher chance to be deceived because when the covid-19 virus began, Japan officials were calling people to stay home, to avoid people interaction. Since most of the job interviews were being run online only, job seekers have no chance to visit a job agent’s office to check out the real status.
In order to protect our personal data, where should we pay an attention?
Sincerely recommend if you are able to select a well-known brand agent who already has a long history and with a good reputation in the job referral market. For instance, if you specialise in teaching English, GaijinPot or Hello-Sensei will be a recommended one; if you specialise in IT engineering, Dai-job could be your choice. Besides, there are another two trustful job websites, they are ‘Recruit‘ and ‘Indeed‘ Japan.
DO NOT register any unknown or small job websites, one of the reasons is because their cyber security system may not be sufficient enough to prevent hacker’s invasion.
Do a direct job application
In Japan, it is a norm that companies welcome potential candidates to directly apply from their official websites for the position application and this is not just secure but also an effective way to do so because they can see your resume without hesitation.
Besides, DO NOT sign up a ‘consentment of using your personal data’ with an agent at an initial stage. Their process is before job agents start a job-match for applicants, most of them will request candidates to go register in their official websites’ database for your personal data collection. After that, they will send the applicant a form of ‘consentment of using personal data’ to sign up and send them back for processing.
Since we don’t know how they use our personal data, therefore, except that is your trusted company, if not, that is a very dangerous move to signed them your consent form. Most of the situation, you will find they just disappeared after receiving your data consent form and you will never be contacted again for job referrals.
Never preset an auto-login to your registered personal profile in job websites
To avoid forgotten login passwords, many people choose to set an auto-login to faster access their personal profile. DO NOT do that because you understand that it is convenient to you but also, it gives a convenience to hackers to easily hack your full profile.
You should close down your profile once you found a Job
Sincerely recommend you to do this as soon as you found a job. Close your profile on inactive job websites to protect your personal data. If you cannot be sure you will need to come back again in a short time, you can amend some important data of your profile such as your name or, remove your old resume.
