There is an interesting phenomenon about differential treatment for boys and girls in Japanese society. For example, we have a common sense of what is boys’ night or girls’ night, right? We know that is just a gimmick for businessmen to push up the sales revenue. However, this kind of practice in Japan is completely NOT a way to go.
How come?
Sometimes when Japanese create a special offer, their concerns are not all about profit making, that is not their first consideration, sometimes they just want to create a differential treatment for their preferred gender only. The simplest and starkest example is the ‘women only’ compartment in public railways and this move has shown how the government cares about women’s safety in the railway.
Job finding assistance for ‘Women only’
Here in Japan, since the status of women is low, for them to find a job, there are a bunch of rules that they have to learn and obey. To help women find their jobs effectively, some specific job hunting websites were created, there are specific seminars created for women to register and provide them some job opportunities.
For example, there was a job seminar in Nagano and the name in Japanese is ‘Godokaisha setsumeikai (合同会社説明会)‘. The seminar was held for nearly a month . The organiser had invited a few employers to come and gave female applicants related job briefings and guidance on their job applications.
Besides, there are three job websites for women on job hunting. They are Doda’s Woman Career(ウーマン・キャリア), 女の転職@type & マイナビ転職. Both are popular to use in Japan.
Another group of Nikkei Economic, which is a subsidiary of Nikko, offered a job training course to women only. They taught them a way of ‘How to persuade their boss in an appropriate way on their job proposals’? Wasn’t that interesting?
On the leisure-wise, there are travelling companies that create unique tours such as hiking tours for women only.
On the driving learning-wise, a Car Driving Group offered women a ‘Driving Overnight Accommodation Course’ which men cannot enjoy.
